Obituary for Thomas Burgin Bollinger

Thomas Burgin Bollinger, 51, of Catawba, died unexpectedly Thursday, November 22, 2018,
at his Myrtle Beach, SC home.

Mr. Bollinger was born September 20, 1967, in the coastal area of North Carolina and was the son of Phyllis Frye Bollinger Goforth and James Edward Bollinger (deceased) and step-father, Robert Harold Goforth "Butch" (deceased).

Tom grew up in the Catawba County area where he graduated from Newton-Conover High School in Newton. He attended Old Dominion University while he served in the United States Navy and earned distinction during the invasion of Panama in 1989. Mr. Bollinger worked primarily in the hospitality industry and was also self-employed in the real estate and hospitality industries. He enjoyed social events, time spent with family, and studying United States history. Mr. Bollinger maintained a love of history and political history and was an active supporter within the Democratic party. Tom was a member and adjutant of American Legion Post 196 in Myrtle Beach, SC.

He is survived by his mother, Phyllis Frye Bollinger Goforth of Catawba; daughter, Laura Lea Bollinger of Morganton; and granddaughter, Alexandriana Aguilar of Morganton; and his special friend, Susan Becton. Mr. Bollinger also leaves family members, Lina Bailey of Conover, and Linda Geiger of Newton, as well as aunts, uncles, cousins, and many friends.

A service to celebrate Tom's life will be held on Saturday December 1, 2018 at 12:00 p.m. at Mt. Olive Lutheran Church in Newton. Rev. Eric Hollar will officiate. Burial with military honors by Sandy Ridge American Legion Post 544 will follow at Winkler’s Grove Baptist Church in Hickory. The family will receive friends on Saturday December 1, 2018 from 10:30 to 11:45 a.m. at Mt. Olive Lutheran Church. Those serving as pallbearers are; Dave Harris, Benjamin Bishop, Jack Beach, Ken Holcomb, James Burgess, Curtis Chi, Steven Frye, and Jonathan Lockard.
